The roots of LB Building Company were planted in 2003, when I started framing houses as a practical way to earn money for college. What began as a temporary gig evolved into a promising five-year career.
When the 2008 recession hit, I took it as an opportunity to pivot, heading back to school for a woodworking technician program where I eventually graduated with distinction. During that time, I completed a summer co-op placement with a high-end deck builder in Waterloo and went on to gain valuable hands-on experience working in several different custom shops. A turning point came when an old friend asked me to help him rebuild his fence and deck; the project set off a spark and gave me the confidence to officially get a business license in 2015.
Setting out independently, I rented a small shop space tucked away in the back of a Kitchener-Waterloo dry cleaner building and began taking on any job that came my way, from framing and drywall to decks and custom woodworking projects. Thanks to that hustle, I steadily built a local following, and word-of-mouth recommendations began to spread. Over the years, that momentum carried me through a move to Hamilton, where the business continued to expand, and eventually led me out of the city to Scotland, Ontario, where I continue to grow the business and hone my craft today.
We are in the process of building a small shop on the property – what will be a key upgrade in producing quality carpentry work in-house and expanding the possibilities of LB Building Co. Thank you to all who have been on this leg of the journey!
